I am going to divert from writing about mortgages and real estate and instead celebrate World Pride. The Washington, D.C., area has been hosting World Pride events for the last two weeks, and RMC is proud to be part of the celebration. As most of you know, RMC now sponsors five LBGTQ+ leagues. We sponsor these leagues to generate mortgages, but we picked these leagues to support more than just that.

The mission of these leagues is to promote inclusion, recreation, excellence, integrity, and good sporting conduct. I can say from personal experience that good sporting conduct is aspirational but not always followed! No one is excluded on the basis of sexual orientation (straight folks play in the leagues), gender, race, religion, political beliefs, athletic ability, or gender identity. When I am at the games, I always feel like this is how I wish our greater community functioned.

These leagues offer a safe space for everyone to be themselves and not feel like they are “other.” For many of the players, the leagues have been a place to form lasting and supportive friendships. I’ve seen this happen with my son and son-in-law, as well as many of the men and women I’ve gotten to know over the years of our sponsorship.
